Our first visit when we arrived in Phnom Penh was to the S-21 war museum, very interesting place but hard to believe that these atrocities happened so recently. 

  After S-21 we headed out to the ‘Killing Fields’, this place is located on the outskirts of the city & is where all the body’s from S-21 & other torture facilities were buried in mass graves.

  Steve & I decided it was time to get a haircut & tidy ourselves up for US Customs!

  Next stop a hair salon in Phnom Penh, fingers crossed, not sure what the outcome would be as you can see by the look of concern on Steve’s face.. 

  Not only us that needed sprucing up, the bikes needed a wash, don’t think the customs people in America would have liked what was on them,we didn’t. A crew of 8 – 10 people set about cleaning the bikes for about 20 minutes, very nice job & only $3..not bad value 

  Time to hand the bikes over to the freight agent, here the bikes being measured up in the warehouse.

  After handing over the bikes we had to use local transport methods to get back to the hotel!!

  Good fun but not much room on these bikes after being on the BMW’s, no helmet which isn’t goon but not breaking any law, only the driver has to wear one..pillions don’t.

  We set off heading for Phnum Penh, on route we came across these guys fishing in what looked to us like muddy pools.

  At the roadside to stretch legs & have a drink.  

  Well Steve has a different way of streching his legs, this is his favorite position.

  Back on the road, we stopped at a town called Batambang for the night.

  We hired a tuk-tuk for the day & went to look around the Angkor World Heritage Site, visiting different temples as we went.

  Some of the jungle temples were completely overgrown with trees, you can see the size of the roots in this picture.

  Steve has an eye for unusual arcitecture!

  Lucy arrived in Cambodia only to double up as Santa on Christmas day, delivering lovely goodies from home..

  No Christmas lunch in Cambodia but Michele ( Lucy’s Mum ) did send us a Christmas cake that we enjoyed, Steve & I had the crumbs & Lucy had the rest!!

  Modern technology is great, we managed to skype Hayley, Sarah, Jayde, Isaak & Adam on Christmas day which was lovely 

  Last minute rush, Phil & Lucy delivering the last of the presents!!

  Most of the last two weeks had been spent on or very close to the Mekong River, this is the bridge we crossed at Kampong Chan where we stayed for the night.

  Our hotel on the river front, brand new even the fittings in the rooms still had the wrapping on them, only up the road people still living on the riverside in houses made from things most of us would class as rubbish.

  For a while we thought we were back in India, the place is so untidy. The lady in the picture if you look closely, is wearing jim-jams, she wasn’t alone every female had them on regardless of age or time of day..

 The night we arrived at this hotel we were treated to a fantastic sunset.

  We were getting low on supplies, coffee etc, we set off thinking we had a good idea where to store we passed on the way in to town, not quite, after miles we decided to go back to the hotel & retrace our route in, st off in the other direction to find the store a couple of hundred yards up the road. Hard work as you can see..

  Today we crossed the border from Laos into Cambodia, got through the customs & immigration no problem ( a series of wooden huts ). This sign in the picture was our welcome to Cambodia & a stark reminder of what this country has gone through, land mines still everywhere.

  After the lush green mountain scenary in Laos, Cambodia was a suprise, these pictures show how barron & stark it is.

  We got to the first town after the border & found this Guest house that was recommended to us by a German couple we met in Laos. This guest house is a training centre for the local students in tourism & environmental studies, it is self funded by the guests who use the facility.

  This is the centre, lovely place for the students to study & get to practice there language skills on visitors.  

  This was the first time we were supplied with mosquito nets, better than using spray bug killer!!

  To get from the Laos mainland to Khong Island we had to cross on this ferry.

  All a bit crammed but an easy journey, cheap also,only $3 for both bikes & us.

  While Steve struck the deal with the hotel owner, Phil checked out the scenary!

  Ready to leave the following morning, having breakfast before hitting the road. Thanks to Vanessa & Claire who recommended this place, lovely & a must for anybody that visits Laos.

  Today we spent the day out on the bikes checking out the local countryside. We travelled upto the Bolovens Plataeu, East of Pakxe, the following photo’s are of the local villages & roads.

 While riding along you get these leaves falling, think the leaves are big, you should see the trees! 

  This is the night receptionist in the hotel, while we were talking to Lucy on skype he kindly serronaded her singing local songs & playing his guitar.
